INSPAI, GIRONA PROVINCIAL COUNCIL'S IMAGE CENTRE

INSPAI, Girona Provincial Council's Image Centre, is a specialised public service forming part of Girona Provincial Council's Department for Culture, New Technologies, Sports and Education, and is one of few facilities dedicated specifically to the collection, processing, conservation, dissemination, creation and promotion of images, in addition to providing training and technical support to municipalities and cultural centres and facilities.

The Centre operates within the following two areas:

• The heritage sphere, in relation to the particular functions of the Emili Massanas i Burcet Image Archive, dedicated to the memory of this figure from Girona, a pioneer in the study of old photographic images and photographers of the Girona province.
• The contemporary and experimental image creation sphere, for both still images (photographs) and moving (audiovisuals).

The main objectives of INSPAI are to preserve and disseminate the historic photographic and audiovisual memory of the Girona province, in addition to promoting contemporary photography through exhibitions and publications.

The activities and events organised by the Centre are held in museums, cultural centres and facilities, or town and city halls within the Girona province, and also throughout Spain and abroad.

On this webpage you can view the images and audiovisuals comprising some of the photographic fonds and collections managed by INSPAI, together with the specialised documentary archive of publications on image, photographic, artistic or documentary heritage, photographic techniques and photography centres, exhibition catalogues, visual arts, and cultural management.

Access to the images is open to all and is free. The conditions for the use of image documentation and reproduction of images are governed by the regulatory tax Ordinance with regard to the fees for reproducing and copying documents from the collections and fonds of INSPAI, Girona Provincial Council's Image Centre.
