Pascual Menacho Collection

The album of photographs, donated by the Pascual Menacho family, was a gift from the employees of Girona Department of Public Works to Eusebio Pascual Casasnovas when he left his post as Head of Department.

The photographs show building works and inaugurations of roads and bridges in Girona province from 1941 to 1950 and, in particular, rebuilding works on roads and bridges that had been destroyed both during the Spanish Civil War and as a result of floods in 1940, 1941 and 1942.

The 25-page album is bound in hard brown covers and tied with string. Each page has 4-6 photographs with short descriptions written in white ink. There are 122 photographs in all, in black and white, mounted on a gelatin DOP paper.

Producer history
Eusebio Pascual Casasnovas was born in Palma de Mallorca on 29 July 1892. Son of Eusebio Pascual Bauza, a liberal mathematician, and Juana Casasnovas Sancho, he took a degree in Civil Engineering in Madrid, where he married Ignacia Menacho. They had eight children and he became a widower at the age of 39. His first destination once he finished his degree was Oliete, and from there he went to Palma de Mallorca and then on to Zaragoza. In 1941, he was sent to Girona as head of public works in order to rebuild the roads and bridges destroyed during the war. After his time in Girona, he was made head of transport in Barcelona, where he remained until retirement. He died on 3 August 1978. These photographs, donated by the Pascual Menacho family, form an album that the employees at the Public Works Department in Girona gave to Eusebio Pascual Casasnovas as a gift when he left his post as head of public works. He was also a military official. On the fourth page from the end of the album, there is a photograph of an inauguration at the Centre in which Mr Pascual Casasnovas appears in military attire.
