Producer history
Ramon Xifra i Riera (12 May 1899 - 17 July 1971) was a lawyer with offices in Figueres, at number 16 Carrer Cervantes, and in Girona, at number 18 Carrer Cort Reial. He was a senior official at the Girona Provincial Council and founder and director of the satirical weekly publication Clar i Net. He was married to Joaquima Heras, daughter of Ursicina Daniel, who lived in the Mas Pòlit country house in Vilamaniscle. He was Carles Rahola's lawyer during his trial, and he also lived in Geneva for a period. He was a member of the Lliga Catalanista (Catalan nationalist organisation) and, as a result, he had problems with the regime. He was also involved in expropriating land for Girona Airport.
Archive history
In 1994, he delivered 44 glass plates and 50 medium-format plastic negatives from his family (see the Guia de fons en imatges (Image guide to the fonds) and the Butlletí de l'AIEMB (the Emili Massanas i Burcet Image Archive's bulletin)). In 1996, during a superficial cleaning process, a set of glass plates was identified as originating from the Iglesias-Xifra family and the lawyer Narcís Xifra was recorded as the creator, rather than Ramon Xifra.
In 2008, during the description process and before restoration, the envelopes of the glass plates were found with 'Iglesias-Xifra' written in the top right corner. In total, there were 174 glass plates of different formats recorded. We assume that these are the glass plates that were being referred to, but we do not know how they were acquired. They were separated into boxes according to format.
In 2006, Mr Jordi Iglesias Heras delivered them to the Centre's family fonds for their description and digitisation, after which it was agreed that the following would be returned to him:
Installation unit 9 (album pages with 40 images)
Installation unit 10
Installation unit 11
Installation unit 12
Installation unit 13
Installation unit 14 (returned to Jordi Iglesias before 1 October 2006)
The first eight installation units correspond to the list prepared from June to September 2006 linking the contact sheets of the copies of the original plates with the eight folders or volumes in which the copies were located.
