Producer history
The Sarasa family includes a long line of industrialists in Girona counties. Already in the 1930s, they owned a car workshop, in the Mercadal district of Girona, in the place where the well-known Sala del Ball later stood. They were also stakeholders in the chemical factory that produced tartaric acid, in Sant Julià de Ramis, which they ran until 1990s .
Manel Sarasa Cantenys (Girona, 1896-1995) was the founder of Construccions Mecàniques Sarasa, known as Tallers Sarasa, a leading company in the city, which manufactured machines for bakeries, slaughterhouses and paper plants. From the 1980s until 1993, the company operated under the name Laborometal, SA. After it closed, the facilities were demolished in 1996.
In 1935, he created the company Productes Tartàrics Sarasa, which operated until 1980, first in Sant Julià de Ramis and later in Tallers Sarasa in Girona. He was involved in such institutions as the GEiEG and the Prudenci Bertrana literary awards. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1964 to 1968 and honorary president until his death. His son Manuel Sarasa donated the fonds to INSPAI, Centre de la Imatge.
