Fons Manel Sarassa

The Sarasa family includes a long line of industrialists in Girona counties. Manel Sarasa Cantenys (Girona, 1896-1995) was the founder of Construccions Mecàniques Sarasa, known as Tallers Sarasa, a leading company in the city, which manufactured machines for bakeries, slaughterhouses and paper plants. In 1935, he created the company Productes Tartàrics Sarasa, which operated until 1980, first in Sant Julià de Ramis and later in Tallers Sarasa in Girona. He was involved in such institutions as the GEiEG and the Prudenci Bertrana literary awards. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1964 to 1968 and honorary president until his death. His son Manuel Sarasa donated the fonds to INSPAI, Centre de la Imatge.

The Manel Sarasa collection consists of 17 glass plates, ten of which contain iconographic information. The images deal with aspects of industrial photography: women spinners, looms and men in their working environment, as well as still lifes of products made of wicker, primarily chairs and recliners.

The Sarasa family includes a long line of industrialists in Girona counties. Already in the 1930s, they owned a car workshop, in the Mercadal district of Girona, in the place where the well-known Sala del Ball later stood. They were also stakeholders in the chemical factory that produced tartaric acid, in Sant Julià de Ramis, which they ran until 1990s . Manel Sarasa Cantenys (Girona, 1896-1995) was the founder of Construccions Mecàniques Sarasa, known as Tallers Sarasa, a leading company in the city, which manufactured machines for bakeries, slaughterhouses and paper plants. From the 1980s until 1993, the company operated under the name Laborometal, SA. After it closed, the facilities were demolished in 1996. In 1935, he created the company Productes Tartàrics Sarasa, which operated until 1980, first in Sant Julià de Ramis and later in Tallers Sarasa in Girona. He was involved in such institutions as the GEiEG and the Prudenci Bertrana literary awards. He was president of the Chamber of Commerce from 1964 to 1968 and honorary president until his death. His son Manuel Sarasa donated the fonds to INSPAI, Centre de la Imatge.
Archive history
From their production until their acquisition by INSPAI, Centre de la Imatge of the Diputació de Girona, the photographs were kept by the donor Manuel Sarasa. In September 2015, the fonds was digitized by Estefania Carrillo and uploaded to the INSPAI image manager.
Details of entry
On November 24, 1998, Manuel Sarasa signed the official donation to INSPAI, Centre de la Imatge of the fonds from his family¿s history.
